Invest In a Good Bed

Humans spend approximately one-third of our lives asleep in our beds. That ten-year-old mattress isn’t as supportive as it used to be and those old pillows are looking pretty shabby. Old bedding may be your Linus blanket, literally; but freshen it up and it will be that little piece of personal heaven you need.

Ask a Funny Person

Ask that funny friend or co-worker what they do for amusement. What websites do they enjoy? What movies crack them up each time? What funny stories have they accumulated from day-to-day observation of the world around them? You’ll feel so good after talking to these people! This conversation will break your ordinary routine with some laughs and big smiles!

Try Yoga

Once you’ve tried it, you’ll be happy you did! Yoga classes of different kinds are available for beginners to the advanced. It will do your mind and body good!

Take a Deep Breath

We don’t call it The Oxygen Plan for nothing! Deep breathing is cleansing and de-stressing. Breathe in through your nose for a count of seven, letting the air expand your stomach. Then, breathe out for a count of seven through your mouth. Repeat this a few times and you’ll feel relaxed, in control and more peaceful.

Find Your Quiet Space

Everyone needs their own quiet, de-stressing, unplugging space to call their very own. It doesn’t matter where it is (bedroom, den, living room, outdoors); just as long as you feel comfortable and secluded for a bit. Family and friends will understand if you need a few uninterrupted minutes of “quiet time”.

Try Different Yoga Classes

From meditative, to fat-burning, to hot — there’s a type of yoga for everyone! It channels energy, focuses thought, and relieves stress. Start with DVDs at home to get the hang of it before you take classes.

Be Aware Of Yourself

This is simply called being mindful or attentive to places and things and activities around you as you are going through your day. Even if you’re occupied with a task, take a moment to think about what it is you are really doing; what you’re thinking as you do it; what perceptions you create, and so on. As you take this little mental break, you’re prompting relaxation.

Acknowledge That You Can Change

Mindfulness opens up a host of possibilities other than your current attitudes, activities, philosophies, etc. In short, it prompts us to think in terms of change and of a million little personal evolutions for the better.

Breathe Through Your Stomach

Sure, that sounds kind of funny. But, when we take a deep, cleansing, refreshing breath, our stomachs automatically expand because they are supposed to. Try it now. The very act of breathing this way allows the most healing oxygen into our bodies and bloodstream, de-stressing and refueling us.
